Principal's Corner

Happy Winter Sand Devil Nation,

Over the last month or so, Page High School received some great news from the State.  The first bit of news comes from the Arizona Department of Education (ADE).  While ADE didn’t report an official grade letter to our school, they did conduct the process to calculate how our year went.  I am happy to report that Page High School was less than 2 points from a “B” letter grade for the 2020-2021 school year.  This speaks to all involved- students, teachers, staff, parents, and the community.  Thank you!

The second bit of news is that the Arizona School Board of Education (AZSBE) has identified Page High School as a School of Resilience for our growth in English/Language Arts during the 2020-2021 school year.  The AZSBE reviewed our State reports and determined that we were able to mitigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on our students’ learning.

We continue to learn many lessons from last year, always looking for the best possible path to get the best possible outcomes for our students.  While we have room to grow and become even better, we are pleased to know our efforts make a difference.

Starting second semester, I will join our PUSD District Leadership team.  I will be working in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment.  I will continue the work we are doing in PUSD to provide a quality education for our students.  I am excited to work with other leaders and the teachers to build sustainable systems and reliable supports around increasing our student outcomes.  It has been a pleasure serving Page High School, and I look forward to the many opportunities I will have to serve you and the Sand Devil Nation from my new role in the District.

Starting second semester, Mr. Brian Henderson will be PHS’s acting Principal.  Many of you will remember Mr. Henderson as he was our assistant principal in past years.  Also, Mr. Leigh Guenther, our PHS Assistant Principal, will be the acting Athletics and Activities Director for PHS.  Please welcome them into their new roles.

I wish wish you peace, love, and joy throughout the holiday break and into the new year.

Kind regards,

Anne Martin
